Hi Steve and all you caring people on this board,

It's a hard day for me. It's Stevie B's birthday and he was certainly a firecracker! he was 33 when he died in 2007. His birthday was always a challenge for me from about the time he was 16 until his last birthday because he loved to celebrate his birthday with illegal fireworks!

I always said he was going to blow his hand off and he should not come crying to me when it happened! Well, he never did, but I still worried and every year gave him the lecture that he didn't listen to.

Today, my daughter and I made a birthday visit to Stevie B and brought along some firecrackers we got from his house. It was a small package of about twelve cylinders hooked together. They were about two inches each with what appeared to be a fuse on each end.

To put it lightly we were both scared to death to light the fuse because we both believed the mantra I had given about blowing your hand off! Anyway, we gathered our courage and lit the fuse and ran like hell! Nothing happened!

My nine year old grandson was with us, and wanted to explore why the fircracker didn't go off. After ten minutes his Mom and I figured it would be safe to pick up the unexploded firecracker. Upon examination we found that we were trying to ignite the wire that hooked the fireworks together.....not the fuse that would ignite the firecrackers.

Well, we gathered our courage and ignited the tiny firecrackers....the first we had ever done in our lives. We were cracking up laughing and I'm sure Stevie preferred that over us sitting at his grave and being morose. Of course we are sad. But we all loved each other so much.

Happy Birthday, my Firecracker, Stevie B!

Love, Mom
