Well Liz I'm quite sure that it was your dad coming to reassure your mom that things will get better,if such an adc did frighten her as you say,then you can tell your mom that before going to bed to talk to your dad and let him know that if he can send some different kind of adc,one that won't frighten her so,maybe a sign that only he and she would know of.This way she will be reassured that dad is thinking of her and continues to be around to comfort her.
